About CEDR
Welcome to the European Council for Rural Law, more usually known as the CEDR from its French name «Comité Européen de Droit Rural».
The CEDR was founded in 1957 and it is the only pan-European organization which represents lawyers, academics, researchers and professionals interested in Rural Law, in a large sense, covering all aspects related to agricultural world: agricultural, environmental, food, energy, commercial, and economical.
The CEDR has special consultative status with FAO (United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization) and observatory status with the Council of Europe and regularly provides assistance and advice to the institutions of the European Union.
The membership of the CEDR comprises principally the most important national associations within Europe as a whole, not just the European Union, of lawyers and other professionals involved in the legal aspects of agriculture and rural life. Where there is no national association, individuals may be admitted as members. Also academic institutions and individuals from outside Europe are enrolled. This has recently allowed CEDR the opportunity to have links across all continents.
The combined characteristics of the CEDR make it in particular a worldwide agro-food think-tank in the intertwined activities of policy and law.
